Filmmaker, Derek Mungor (co-star/co-director/co-etc. of Desolation Wilderness, a movie I was lucky enough to be a part of), has a new project in the works called You Are Not Alone. Get involved, get rewards, spread the word.

If you are the purveyor of a blog and are interested in writing a piece about an album of mine that you can't get your hands on, feel free to send a message (go to the bottom right of my bandcamp page, where it says "For all other inquiries"), with a link to your site, and I would be more than happy to send a free download, a reviewer's copy, of the album you are interested in. General interview questions are also welcome.

As Is The Sun - Free Reissue available now!
I know it seems like this album keeps being released and re-released under different circumstances, but hear me out:
Of course, the album, as it was released in 2009, is still available on the old Rack and Ruin Records website (RRR128). But why?
This morning I learned that Women guitarist, Christopher Reimer, passed away in his sleep at the age of 26. His work in Women, as well as in Church of the Very Bright Lights, was very important to me as a listener and as a musician. The music he left behind is fantastic, and will continue to influence the musical landscape. My regards to his loved-ones and bandmates.

The Want Is Real II (Drum Demo)
Here’s an old recording I found. It’s the working out of the drum part for The Want Is Real II.
I just wanted to state that I am always grateful and humbled when someone discovers my music and wants to talk about it on their blog. I want my music to have the chance to get to as many interested ears as possible, and you bloggers play a big part in that.
Some blogs I am grateful to:

Happy Holidays!
Some of you may have noticed that I finally uploaded the self-titled album to bandcamp. I wrestled with the idea for a while because my fondness for the sound I was going for with that album has waned. But, I realize that plenty of people might like it and, even though I’ve lost interest in it, I’m still proud of it.
Click on the album cover to check it out.
The Manly Deeds’ first full-length album is available now. Check it out.
today is the last day to watch desolation wilderness. thanks to anyone that watched it and a bigger thanks to everyone that worked on it. derek mungor and i worked extremely hard and many mistakes were made (a lot by myself [huge apologies to derek, mostly]) that were remedied/fixed by many different parties (looking at you, nic zwaart). this was no easy-going shoot; “sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you” and all. in the end, i learned a lot about myself (blah blah), filmmaking, and how if you don’t have celebrities in/behind your projects no one cares.
anyhow, it’s a strange little film that i’m (currently) particularly proud of. i think it landed within a short distance of what we had in mind. it’s interesting that literally almost 100% of this movie was done by derek and i. we wrote the story, derek wrote the script, we paid for it out of pocket, produced it, acted in it, edited it, did all post work, created (pretty solid, in my opinion) viral/associated content, and acted as our own pr group (probably our biggest misstep). all of this by two people — no small feat, i would imagine.
conversely, at our sides during the two week shoot were darren orlowski and ralph jimenez who — and i don’t want to understate this — contributed greatly to the project. when we brought them on board it was with the understanding that they weren’t acting as crew, but as equal partners in how the shoot/story/final product unfolded. they weren’t paid (no one was, really) and the surroundings were about as cut off as they are in the film. not to mention jason aud who absolutely made the film work with his score (seriously, the first rough cut didn’t have most of it and it was a near mess). additionally, most everything you see in the film is due to massive favors on the parts of many different people we called upon for help — all uncompensated. it was truly a labor of like like.
to summarize: it was a long road with a lot of help from people who didn’t need to. i do realize that i’m leaving loads of “thank you”s and insight out, but this hopefully isn’t the end of that road for the film so i’ll let there continue to be some things left unsaid for now.
i’d work with you guys again in a heartbeat. the movie’s got some great moves.
after two long, long years my and derek mungor’s film desolation wilderness is finally available to be seen — right now, for free — on vimeo for the next week. please watch and send the link around if you enjoy it. leave comments with questions, caveats, or critiques. enjoy.
